Khao Sok Jungle Experience - 4 days

Experience the extraordinary natural environment of Khao Sok National Park. Journey by long tail boat along the many inlets and klongs of Cheow Lan Lake and stay in charming raft house accommodation. This guided tour includes treks through the jungle, kayaking in peaceful serenity and the opportunity to relax and swim in the National Park.  You will also have chance to learn about local life in the forest and don’t be surprised if you see a boar, giant hornbill or even a wild elephant on your trip!

Day 1:    Surat Thani - Cheaw Lan Lake

At 08.00 you will be transferred by shared minivan from Surat Thani Railway Station to our office in Ban Ta Khun. First we stop at a local market there to buy snacks for your overnight stay and experience the charm of an authentic open-air Thai market. Around 10.00 we arrive at Rajjapraba Dam, board your long tail boat and enjoy a tour of the breathtaking scenery on the way to the raft house. Upon arrival at the floating bungalows you check into your very own traditional Thai style floating bungalow. Relax, take a swim, borrow a kayak and explore the many inlets and klongs of Cheow Lan Lake, or just relax and sunbathe while taking in the scenery. At noon we enjoy a traditional Thai lunch prepared with rich southern Thai curries, and delicious local vegetables with mangos, pineapple and watermelon for dessert. Afterwards we depart for 3-hour trek through the ancient jungle of Khao Sok National Park. Depending on the season, your guide may show you edible plant species, how to find drinking water in bamboo, and how to spot wildlife in the canopy. In the late afternoon we return to the raft house, free time: relax, swim, shower and enjoy the atmosphere. In the evening enjoy a delectable Thai dinner of steamed or fried fish fresh from the Andaman sea, dark green Asian kale, spicy Thai soup, and a delicious omelet topped with baked garlic.

Day 2:    Khao Sok National Park

We rise before breakfast and enjoy tea or coffee before boarding your long tail boat for a wildlife safari, sometimes with morning mist. From your boat you may see Macaque monkeys, Dusty Languars, Great Hornbills, wild Boars, Gibbons, and even the occasional wild Elephant! Upon return at the raft house enjoy a traditional Thai breakfast of Khao Tom (a savory rice porridge) or a delicious pancake topped with honey or chocolate sauce prepared just for you. Afterwards have a swim and relax. Around 10.30 we hop aboard a kayak for a guided tour of the surrounding area. Sliding peacefully along the banks of the lake without a motor, you will experience the peace and serenity the lake has to offer, and may have a chance to see some of the more skittish animals who are more sensitive to noise. At noon we return to the raft house for lunch and check out afterwards. At 14.00 we return to the pier and continue to your hotel in Khao Sok; the Anurak Lodge.

Day 3:    Khao Sok National Park

One of the amazing advantages of Anurak Community Lodge is its proximity to the forest. From your jungle home you can start walking the trails (included in room rate) literally at the doorstep of Anurak. You may choose from two hikes; a short one of around one hour for families with children over easy terrain a great way to get familiar with the rain forest. Or a longer hike of around 2 to 3 hours depending on fitness for those who want to go a bit deeper into the forest. On both hikes our local guides will help you experience the forest and give you the chance to get some real interaction with the local community. Alternatively you can book bamboo rafting or tubing (depending on weather conditions) directly at the lodge.

After breakfast at 10.00/15.00 meet your local guide at Anurak, choose your bikes and helmets and off you go!  The stunning valley just behind the lodge offers a unique chance to see the local lifestyle of the rubber tappers and palm olive growers of the region. The local economy is based on this two commodities which have for years been the main activity in the area. Anurak's privileged position offers easy access to this otherwise unseen part of the local way of living. Biking through the shade of rubber trees on a small country road with the backdrop of high karst hills and the murmur of a small klong (river) nearby is a memorable experience. Your guide will be able to share some stories about the local way of life, and show you how rubber is extracted from trees, the route is easy and the total distance is around 15km. Make sure you take a poncho during the rainy days, and a hat + plenty of sunscreen when the sun shines. But given the weather of Khao Sok you might need both!

“Unfortunately our dream holiday is over. It was fantastic! We haven’t felt ‘lost’ for a moment and everything was tip top arranged for. Thank you for our ‘trip without worries’. Yes, ahead of our first long-distance trip we’ve been worried; wouldn’t we lose our way, will someone take care of us? Thank you for helping realize this fantastic dream holiday! A very good experience to discover parts of Thailand especially River Kwai and its main attraction. What an incredible experience [Phuket Town Discovery Walk]! I tried the fortune stick throwing thing for the first time. You can see the passion our guide had for what he is doing. Experience the rich and diverse history and culture of Phuket. Along the way we grabbed some snacks, purchased some souvenirs and took plenty of photos. The tour was taken at a comfortable pace with a clear direction. By the end we were amazed at how much we learned about the island of Phuket and the history of Phuket Town. Excellent, helpful people, punctuality pick up time, Great experience of bicycle ride to add on extra dimension at our trip for Thailand countryside. The Bangkok Biking was very interesting and well organized as well as the one in Khao Sok. We enjoyed every single day so much!!! And we like to come back again.”

Yui - 12Gothailand I am Yui Boonruang, responsible for making custom itineraries fitting your requests and budget. One of my favorite destinations in Thailand is Koh Phangan because of the clean white sand and clear ocean water of the beach at Haad Rin. I love Tom Yam Goong, the most famous Thai spicy soup. I recommend ordering this soup at the Tom Yum Kung Restaurant on Khao San Road. It’s on a small soi (side street) and so it is not so busy with the tourist crowd there. I would love to Welcome you to Thailand!
