Amphawa - Authentic Floating Markets - Excursion

Just an hour or so from Bangkok, Amphawa is another world. It feels as though you have been transported back in time.  Pick your way through Amphawa’s bustling and little known Tha Kha floating market, visit ancient and atmospheric temples and take a long-tail boat along the Mae Klong river where you can capture glimpses of unchanged rural life.

Day 1:    Amphawa

This morning at 09:00 AM, meet your private guide and driver for a full day excursion to Amphawa floating market, one of the lesser-known and hidden gems in the Bangkok area.

On the way, if it is open(*), stop at the little-known Tha Kha floating market with its natural canopy of foliage, providing welcome shade on a warm day. Then board a long-tail boat up the Mae Klong River, passing charming scenes of local Thai life. Stop at Wat Bang Kung to explore a small chapel that is completely enclosed within the roots of a banyan tree. Also visit the King Rama II Memorial Park and Museum, housing art objects of the 18th century in four buildings that feature classical Thai architecture. Each of the four rooms displays exhibits on court life during this period. This afternoon arrive at the Amphawa floating market while it is in full swing. Unlike Bangkok’s well-known Damnoen Saduak floating market, few foreigners visit Amphawa, which is frequented almost exclusively by Thais. Locals congregate to buy and sell everything from cooking pots to fresh flowers to wind-up toys. Vendors pack their boats and cruise the waters, waiting for someone to wave them down to buy their wares. The area around the market is a lovely place to stroll, with open air restaurants, canals full of colorful boats, and crisscrossing bridges packed with people. Delicious meals are cooked right from the boats, including pad thai, curry and noodles, pancakes, and chicken satay, to name a few dishes on offer. Return to Bangkok with the evening at leisure.

*The market is only on Friday, Saturday & Sunday!

“Unfortunately our dream holiday is over. It was fantastic! We haven’t felt ‘lost’ for a moment and everything was tip top arranged for. Thank you for our ‘trip without worries’. Yes, ahead of our first long-distance trip we’ve been worried; wouldn’t we lose our way, will someone take care of us? Thank you for helping realize this fantastic dream holiday! A very good experience to discover parts of Thailand especially River Kwai and its main attraction. What an incredible experience [Phuket Town Discovery Walk]! I tried the fortune stick throwing thing for the first time. You can see the passion our guide had for what he is doing. Experience the rich and diverse history and culture of Phuket. Along the way we grabbed some snacks, purchased some souvenirs and took plenty of photos. The tour was taken at a comfortable pace with a clear direction. By the end we were amazed at how much we learned about the island of Phuket and the history of Phuket Town. Excellent, helpful people, punctuality pick up time, Great experience of bicycle ride to add on extra dimension at our trip for Thailand countryside. The Bangkok Biking was very interesting and well organized as well as the one in Khao Sok. We enjoyed every single day so much!!! And we like to come back again.”

Yui - 12Gothailand I am Yui Boonruang, responsible for making custom itineraries fitting your requests and budget. One of my favorite destinations in Thailand is Koh Phangan because of the clean white sand and clear ocean water of the beach at Haad Rin. I love Tom Yam Goong, the most famous Thai spicy soup. I recommend ordering this soup at the Tom Yum Kung Restaurant on Khao San Road. It’s on a small soi (side street) and so it is not so busy with the tourist crowd there. I would love to Welcome you to Thailand!
