The Beauty of Toraja - 4 days

Toraja is a region in South Sulawesi where many aspects are still to be found that relate to the rich history of this area. Traditional ways of living are used here and through this trip you get the opportunity to see all that.
Your hotel is based in Rantepao, but you will be on the road each day of this trip. Exploring and learning about villages, communities, traditions, rituals and much more.

Day 1:    Start in Rantepao
 
 

To get to Rantepao, it takes around 9 hours from Makassar or it takes 8 hours from Sengkang. In Rantepoa you can check in to your hotel and spend the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 2:    Excursion Rock Graves/Tree Graves and Saddle Houses (Culture Tour)
 
 

Pick up at the hotel at 9 am and set out for a full day exploring Toraja. First you will visit Lemo to see rows of Tau Tau statues and the hanging graves. Onwards to Suaya to discover the secrets of the Baby Tree. Furthermore, you will visit Londa, to see ancient graves where the deceased were entombed. At Kete Kesu, one of the oldest Torajan villages, we can see Tongkonan and old rice barns. It is also famous for its traditional colorful woodcarving.

Day 3:    Toraja Village Walk
 
 

Today you will explore the Toraja region by car. Visit some types of graves and traditional villages where children play on bamboo instruments. A Torajan lunch will be served in the village of Sanggala under a Lumbung.

Day 4:    Rantepao – Makassar – End of program
 
 

Have breakfast at the hotel after which this program ends. You can choose for an optional transfer to your next destination, or continue with another module.

Tour Includes:

  • All accommodation as mentioned in the program 
  • All meals as specified (B= Breakfast, L= Lunch, D=Dinner) 
  • All land transportation (except arrival and departure) by air-conditioned car with local driver as mentioned  
  • Local driver during land transportation and transfers (Indonesian speaking only) 
  • Local English-speaking guides at most sights during the tour 
  • All excursions and activities as mentioned including entrance fees such as: 
  • Toraja - Excursion Rock Graves/Tree Graves and Saddle Houses (Culture Tour) Including Local guide, Entrance fee 
  • Toraja - Toraja Village Walk Excursion Including Guide, Traditional Lunch, Bamboo performance & Traditional dance, entrance Toraja only 

Tour does not include:

  • Flights and taxes
  • Airport departure taxes per person 
  • Travel insurances

  • About two weeks before your departure you will receive your personal detailed day-to-day itinerary of your upcoming trip, as well as additional information such as cultural etiquette and other recommendations that will help you to maximise your experience.
