Rinjani Trekking - 4 days

This tour is put together for the fittest. If you like to go hiking and spending nights in tents on top of the mountain, then this is your tour! We are going to be walking and climbing over paths, some steeper than the others, to get to the peak of the vulcano from where we will have spectacular views over Lombok and surrounding Islands. We are walking through all kinds of environments, whether it is rocky, rainforest or grassland, it is all as magnificent as the rest.

Day 1:    Sembalun - Rim

The trip starts with a path through fields where you are looking up to the majestic Gunung Rinjani. From the foothills of the mountain you will slowly start to climb up to our Base Camp where lunch is served. From here, we climb onwards through steep scenery that varies between barren grassland to woodland.
The next stop is the campsite at the crater Rim, where we will enjoy your dinner. This will give you the energy needed for the climb to the top the next morning after getting some sleep.

Day 2:    Sembalun Rim – Rinjani Summit – Segara Anak Lake – Hotspring - Cave

At 02.30 AM we wake up and get a hot drink and a light breakfast. We start climbing to the peak of Mount Rinjani at 03.00 AM to see a spectacular sunrise. Once at the top you are treated to a stunning view where you can see Lombok below, Sumbawa to the right and Bali to the left.  On the way down you can take your time to see the magnificent lake and volcanic cone of the new volcano inside the old one. After breakfast you will descent for three hours to the Crater Lake and to visit the refreshing Hot Springs.

Day 3:    Crater Lake – Senaru Rim

After breakfast, we start climbing back up to the other side of the Rim. The hike starts easy along the lakeshore but will soon start ascending quite steeply. Just before you reach the top of the rim the path flattens out and you have time to catch your breath and enjoy the wonderful view of the lake, the peak of Mount Rinjani and the new volcano.

Day 4:    Senaru Rim – Senaru Village

Rise and shine! You have to enjoy a stunning sunrise again before heading to Base Camp where your final meal – a well needed lunch - awaits you. The last part of our journey passes through tropical rain forest for about 3 hours until you reach the road in the village of Senaru. This is where the tour ends.

The climbing of the Rinjani is not to be taken lightly. We enjoyed the tour and the nice food cooked and carried up for us by our porters. The sights were also gorgeous and worth the effort.
