Central to East Java - 4 days

Located close to its sister town of Yoyakarta the old city of Solo is well worth a visit. Visit the palace of the sultan to see how people used to life in former times. Head further east up into the cooler hills around Sukuh. Walk through plantations and have a swim under a waterfall. Head even further east and reach the town of Batu, but not before paying a visit to a tea plantation. The final stop on this tour is the famous Bromo Volcano. Enjoy an impressive sunrise and walk up to the rim of the volcano to take a peek inside. 

Day 1:    Arrival Yogyakarta - Transfer to Sukuh via Solo
 
 

From Yogyakarta, we will continue to Sukuh and visit Solo Mangkunegaran Palace and Batik Museum.

The Palace of the rulers of Mangkunegaran was established by Raden Mas Said who signed a treaty with the Dutch East India Company (VOC) in 1757. By virtue of the treaty, he became the rule of a part of Eastern Mataram and was henceforth known as Mangkunegara I. Known as Pura Mangkunegaran, the palace is located in the center of the city of Solo

At walking distance from the Sultan’s palace there is the Batik Museum Danar Hadi. This private museum houses the great collection of excellent Batik, antique and Royal textiles from Java and China etc. A guide will lead you to the 11 rooms with all kind of Batik. At the end and in the back of the museum you see about 200 people working in a big hall processing the batik textiles using different techniques.

Day 2:    Sukuh - Short Nature Hike - Transfer to Batu
 
 

Today you will visit Sukuh Temple, stands 900 m high on the slopes of Mt.Lawu. This mysterious temple was built in the 15th century during the declining years of Majapahit.

Leaving the temple behind, a guide will take you through the plantations. Along the way the guide can tell you all about the different crops and fruits that grow here. If you are lucky and things are close to harvest you might even get a taste. The tour ends at a beautiful waterfall in the village of Tawangmangu. Here the driver will be waiting to take you to your next destination; Batu. 

Day 3:    Batu - visit Wonosari Tea Plantation - Transfer to Bromo
 
 

In the morning, you will visit the tea gardens of Wonosari, the tea factory and you will enjoy the stunning vistas. It’s also a great place for lunch. In the early afternoon, you ride via Probolinggo to the Gunung Bromo Volcano. Your hotel is located nearby the edge of the Tengger crater. The ascent of the volcano is usually the highlight of every visit to Java.   

Day 4:    Bromo - End of program
 
 

An early rise (4.00 am) will ensure you have enough time for the jeep ride to the sunrise viewpoint up above. Cross the sea of sand' and climb 246 steps upwards to the cone of Mt Bromo, and in the morning light you will see flames and smoke rising from the crater; a fantastic view, made even better when the slowly rising sun reveals an amazing moon-like landscape.

After the Bromo trip, you will be brought to Surabaya for your onward trip. Or, continue with another module.

The sunrise from the viewpoint over the Bromo was magnificent, however ofcourse there was quite a crowd to see this phenomenon. Nevertheless, we enjoyed it! We thought the journey included quite some driving, but overall we enjoyed all the sights and diversity.
